Enabling 3D Secure (3DS) Data Submission
Overview
3D Secure (Three-Domain) Authentication is an XML-based security protocol designed as an additional security layer for online credit and debit card transactions. Credit card companies will verify incoming transaction data against data provided by the Merchant from the cardholder.
Most major credit card companies have their own brand or set of brands that deploy this security verification protocol:
Visa – Verified by Visa / Visa Secure brands
Mastercard – SecureCode
JCB International – J/Secure
American Express – American Express SafeKey
Discover - Discover ProtectBuy
The response (and accompanying descriptions) from the credit card companies will be one of the following based on the 3DS data provided:
Not Provided - “3DS data was not verified during the transaction.”
Unavailable - “3DS data was not available for that account via submission method.”
Match - “3DS information matches the card brand’s verification system.”
